Summer is fully here and with the warm weather, barbecue season is well underway. Do you have a propane gas barbecue? It is a durable, safe appliance that distributes heat very well, thus providing more efficient cooking. But to fully enjoy the pleasures of grilling and make your meals a real success, you should follow certain rules concerning maintenance, cleaning, handling and storage, in particular propane tanks, must be observed.

Are you one of those people who love to cook delicious food on the barbecue?

Here are 4 tips to help you fully enjoy your propane BBQ during the summer.

1. Install your BBQ in a suitable location

Make sure that your barbecue is properly installed in a safe location. It must be placed outside on a stable surface (to prevent it from tipping over), in a well-ventilated area (to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning), away from traffic (children playing, etc.) and away from flammable material or electric wires. Plus, you shouldn’t place it too close to the walls, windows, patio doors, trees, or shrubs.

2. Make sure it is in good working condition.

Check your installation for gas leaks by performing a leak test by spraying soapy water on the supply pipe and fittings once the gas has been opened. The formation of small bubbles or the presence of a smell of rotten eggs confirms that the fittings or the hose are defective and that there is a gas leak.

Also inspect the condition of the burner. If the flame produced is yellow or bright or if you notice that the burner is abnormally pierced in several places (damage caused by corrosion) the burner is certainly defective or poorly adjusted.

In either case, you will need to replace the defective parts before using your barbecue.

3. Perform regular cleaning

It is recommended that the grates and the interior of the bowl be cleaned after each use according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

4. Think about safety when using the BBQ

Do not use propane cylinders that are defective or older than 10 years.

Once your barbecue is lit, never leave it unattended. To avoid fire or burns, do not allow anyone to have fun, play or run nearby and do not move them. In addition, you should never smoke around your device.

If ever an accident occurs or a fire breaks out in your BBQ, safely shut off the propane cylinder or the gas supply valve attached to your building.
